Implant Overdentures
It is well documented that the stabilization of mandibular dentures with dental implants improves the patient’s oral health related quality of life and chewing function and reduces peri-implant bone and masseter muscle atrophy. However, selection of appropriate implants and overdenture attachments is often a challenge. The choice should be based on patient age and function as well as factors like stability, available space, cost and expected maintenance. In an approach that considers the general functional capacity and possible functional decline of the elderly edentulous patient, a staged approach for the choice overdentures attachments will be discussed.
Learning objectives:
- learn about diagnostics for functional implant-overdentures
- learn about the choice of suitable implants for implant-overdentures
- learn about the choice of attachment
